Exciting new bands have come thick and fast in the past eighteen months. For punk outfit, DREAM WIFE, the quality is continuing to ooze from their every doing. A debut album given the five star treatment from NME, branded as a “band we need” by DIY and supporting some of the most iconic British bands ahead of their own UK tour in the fall; Dream Wife truly deserve to be on everyone’s ‘ones to watch‘ list.
Currently on the road with The Vaccines, the trio are certainly playing to well deserved packed out audiences. Showcasing their angsty vocals with sincere instrumentation in front of thousands is exactly where they should be. A fantastic trait is that they are not afraid to own the stage – which many support bands seem to.
Carelessly strutting around as if it was their headline slot at Rock City, lead vocalist Rakel Mjoll growls with sincerity throughout their half-an-hour outing. What the set lacked in length, it made up for with passion and intent. The likes of Hey Heartbreaker and Fire featured on the night where posters of an as-of-yet unannounced Rescue Rooms show later this year surrounded the venue.
Declaring “this song is dedicated to all the bad bitches,” the energy-laden FUU left an angsty tinge on Rock City‘s stage. Via cutting hooks and cut-throat hooks, the band worked through an elegant set where they could have easily headlined the show.
For those who did not sleep on their self-titled debut record, it would have been excellent; for those who simply wanted a good spot for The Vaccines, it was an opportunity to find their next favourite band.
