A VOYUERISTIC LOOK INTO A CLOSED BOOK | LOMELDA – ‘THX’

Thx

A raw and eerie journey into Hannah Read‘s mindset is arguably the best way to describe LOMELDA‘s latest release. THX tiptoes around with gentle arrangements and softening vocals that would be suited to picture-esque visuals.

Nestled somewhere between Laura Marling‘s delicate approach to songwriting and arrangements and Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s stripped back performance of Lighthouse Keeper in Frank you will find Lomelda.

A rare treat needing no fancy extras or attention diverting gimmicks is Thx – an album seamlessly wandering from track to track. Far Out has a violin at the core, which allows the vocals to dance around and work in perfect harmony – it does not need to develop into anything because of the simplicity it carries throughout.

Nvr is a more moody ballad. Deep, commanding drums are the backbone of Lomelda‘s arrangement in this three-and-a-half-minute exploration of harmonies and whispery lyrics.

Overall, Thx is a record that needs to be heard and concentrated on in order to get the full effect. A mellow, explorative accumulation of tracks that can only be appreciated truly if listened to during time set aside.
