THE BIG MOON
LOVE IN THE 4TH DIMENSION is a debut record bridging the gap between polished maturity and an effortlessly cool lack of caring. Over the past year or so, THE BIG MOON have crept onto the scene without subtlety or shyness and now is their time to bathe in the plaudits and admiration they so thoroughly deserve.
The quartet’s first full length has captured their coolness across 11 tracks, which includes a newly recorded version of Sucker – a track that arguably kickstarted the atmospheric rise of The Big Moon and it is fittingly placed as the LP opener.
Impossible to single out just one highlight from LIT4D, there are several moments and genius throughout. The reverb laden harmonies in Happy New Year show off exactly what The Big Moon are all about. Seamlessly progressing from crooning vocals to punchy drums; this punchy theme is ever-present.
Silent Movie Susie has a sharp, almost intergalactic opening guitar riff before bursting into the anthemic, pleading “Come back for the summer” choruses and summer loving wooing complementing feel-good instrumentation.
A moody, mystique vibe comes in the form of Zeds. Swaying vocals and sharp hooks are dictated by a smooth yet commanding drum beat slowing the whole record down into a hypnotic four-minutes. Aptly named, The End closes Love In The 4th Dimension. “Boy I’m afraid, this may be the end,” leaves both singer Juliette and us, the listener, wanting more.
Closing with an emphatic, begging-for-confetti-cannons arrangement, The Big Moon have nailed their debut full length and it will certainly be a pleasure to hear the London quartet play it live.
LOVE IN THE 4TH DIMENSION IS OUT FRIDAY 7 APRIL.
