A REVIEW OF…THE MAGIC GANG – EP THREE

EP THREE

THE MAGIC GANG have returned with EP THREE. The four track EP was released via Maccabees‘ Felix White’s label and is as Magic Gang as you get.

With swaying, slacker arrangements; the Brighton band have nailed this release. How Can I Compete is oozing with straight-to-the-bones swagger, which The Magic Gang are certainly no strangers to. Comparison to the rawer, stripped back Life Without You, they are poles apart but they are part of the latest stepping stone taking the band from strength to strength.

This is their third EP, and a LP is surely on the horizon for The Magic Gang. Their versatility across four tracks hints that they are ready to knuckle down and give fans a full length. The eerily, atmospheric final track, No One Else, is based around cutting hooks and steady drums – which, again, is totally expected from The Magic Gang.

The Magic Gang head out on tour throughout May. Tickets available here.
