FAIL YOU AGAIN

CAN’T SWIM have dropped debut LP FAIL YOU AGAIN via Pure Noise RecordsReleased 10th March 2017, it follows on from their debut release Death Deserves a Name, and according to frontman Chris LoPorto, “a lot of our personality is in the record.”

Opening with the punchy What’s Your Big Idea, you are instantly drawn towards LoPorto‘s raspy vocals over an intense drum-led anthem. It sets the tone for the majority of the record. However, unlike Death Deserves a NameFail You Again isn’t as in-your-face and angsty – there is the infectiously catchy lead single We Won’t Sleep and the anthemic Hey Amy which sees LoPorto calling out in despair in a heartfelt typically-emo ballad.

The only track to make it onto Fail You Again from Death Deserves a Name is the eerie yet heavy Stranger. Instead of being overly polished and refined, it is left exactly as it was on the EP – this theme continues across the whole record.

LoPorto spoke to Loose Cardigan of Ideas about the recording and mixing process, explaining: “Tone wise I think a lot of the guitar resembles The Cure in terms of reverb. Mixing I’d say we are all fans of Death Cab For Cutie so  think we went for that kind of sound.”

There are definitely reverb riddled guitars throughout Fail You Again, those intertwined with jagged riffs give Can’t Swim a solid debut full-length. Throw in the chanting choruses of One Shot and the rattling, dancing-in-your-bones $50,000,0000 and you have an album, which over time will take Can’t Swim to the peak of their genre.
