SPECTOR are undoubtedly one of the most loved bands in the ‘indie scene.’
From the massively catchy Chevy Thunder to the self pitying Bad Boyfriend, the London four-piece are a pleasure live.
They are thankfully heading back out on tour – I spoke to bassist Tom Shickle ahead of “The Tenner Tour.”
FIRST OF ALL – WHY “THE TENNER TOUR?”
“We wanted to get out on tour again, do a really fun set of shows in smaller venues than we’re used to and making the tickets you guessed it £10. We have a song called tenner, named after this too! Hopefully it allows people to buy one more drink, tip them over the edge and make it a madder show.”
WAS THERE ANY PARTICULAR REASON WHY YOU CHOSE THE CITIES/VENUES THAT YOU DID?
“Going back to places in the UK we really love playing or didn’t get a chance to on the last album. We’re staying away from London and Manchester on this run, they’ve had their fun.”
WHEN YOU LAST PLAYED NEWCASTLE, IT WAS CLUNY – DO YOU EXPECT THE CROWD TO BE SIMILAR AT THINK TANK?
“Every time we’re in Newcastle it’s mad. Cluny last time was great. We played on Halloween a few years ago, we were all strange zombie versions of ourselves, me on bass as a decapitated Paul McCartney. Zombie Fred [Macpherson] didn’t look very different.”
WHERE ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO PLAY ON THE TOUR?
“Think tank in Newcastle of course waheeeyyyy!”
YOU HAVE THE SHOWS IN MANCHESTER AND LONDON WHERE YOU ARE PLAYING ALBUMS IN FULL – WHAT WILL “THE TENNER TOUR” SETLISTS BE LIKE?
“A few old favourites of course but we’re in the middle of writing. We’re going to test out one or two very very new tracks that we haven’t recorded yet, see what everyone thinks.”
CROWDS NOWADAYS ARE FULL OF PEOPLE GOING NUTS – DO YOU ENJOY SEEING THAT OR DO YOU PREFER TO SEE PEOPLE JUST ENJOYING THE TUNES CALMLY?
“I’m a big fan of fans enjoying themselves. If you’re up for jumping around even better!”
CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE YOU LATER ON IN THE YEAR?
“We hope so, as I mentioned we’re making a lot of new things, it will be exciting to see where that takes us!”
ANY OTHER PLANS FOR THE NEAR FUTURE FOR SPECTOR?
“I’ve got spaghetti for dinner, that’ll be lovely.”
