CATFISH AND THE BOTTLEMEN have finally announced a second album.
After touring The Balcony tirelessly for the past two years, they let fans know that The Ride will be available on May 27th 2016.
The only tracks we know so far are album opener 7 and latest single Soundcheck.
7 received a debut as the only track from The Ride to be on last autumn/winter’s tour – it went down well and gig-goers took their chance to record it on their mobile phones. Lyrics crooned by McCann such as “I’d love you but I need another year alone” will make a studio version of 7 amazing.
When Soundcheck, the first single from The Ride, was released it was met with varied opinions. Personally, I loved it and it showed a combination of maturity, teenage charm and their pre-Balcony rawness together in one track. It features at track number three on The Ride.
Hopefully the album is structured as well as The Balcony was and has the same style. Catfish and the Bottlemen are one of the most exciting bands from the UK right now but there is a huge risk of the album flopping. Being on the road constantly and touring The Balcony has set the bar so high that it will be difficult to match their debut.
With track names such as Heathrow and Glasgow, one would assume that there will be tales of their years on the road.
At their live shows, the dominant lighting is red so this track could link to the idea of performing and always being on the road.
Emily could be a ‘follow on’ from Kathleen and so many Tweets had been posted before the actual track list release saying they would release a song called Oxygen so it will be interesting to hear what exactly it is.
Van McCann keeps saying that The Balcony was just a warm-up so we will see on May 27th just what they are capable of.
